If I Hide From My PCOS Maybe It Will Disappear! There’s a Better Way Boo!

Recently Oui had the chance to sit down with Angela Jacobs, a functional medicine nurse practitioner in Utah who has trained with the best of the best! She helps women with PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) every day like a BOSS!

Here are her tips for living with PCOS and additions from The Oui Doctor!

What is PCOS/Hormone Imbalance/Hyperinsulinemia?

All of these create hormone challenges that stem from an improper ratio of estrogen and progesterone. When the ratio is off, then your testosterone gets unhappy and involved (but the root cause is high estrogen).

Symptoms of PCOS can include:

  • acne
  • moody/painful PMS symptoms
  • headaches
  • heavy/long periods
  • irregular periods
  • anovulation
  • infertility
  • hair shedding
  • and many more!

Each treatment component works to help the body bring down insulin, detox estrogen better, and increase progesterone.

What medications can I take for my PCOS?

MEDICATIONS:

  • Metformin - 500 mg
  • Start Progesterone Cream/Troches/Capsules: Progesterone cream and troches - about 100 mg. Capsules - around 225 mg.
  • Even low-dose Semaglutide or Tirzepatide can be massively helpful in reversing insulin resistance and regulating your periods!

What supplements can I take for my PCOS?

SUPPLEMENTS

  • 13C/DIM: take 1 capsule AM and 1 capsule PM (Seeking Health Brand)
  • BActiv: 1 capsule in AM (Xymogen Brand)
  • Magnesium Glycinate: 3 capsules in PM (Pure Encapsulation Brand)
  •  Monopure Omega: take 1 capsule daily (Xymogen)
  • ENLYTE RX – a magical multivitamin that EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE ON! EnlyteRx.com

Diet tips for PCOS

Focus on lots of clean protein - remember LDL cholesterol is the beginning of the hormone chain. START YOUR DAY with 30g of protein or more for your first meal! We love Premier Protein for this! Decrease foods that increase insulin - processed foods, foods with sugar, and processed grains. If your gut biome is off then do a detox diet and clean up your gut.

Exercise tips for PCOS

Focus on weight resistance. Build muscle, build muscle!!!

Even 20 minutes of resistance training twice weekly has major health benefits.

Look up Dr. Gabrielle Lyon - she’s my muscle hero!
