Patient Access & Communication Policy
Slow Medicine. Shared Responsibility. Clear Boundaries. Excellent Care.
At The Oui Doctor, we believe excellent medical care requires time.
Time to listen.
Time to think.
Time for treatments to work.
Time for habits to change.
Time for patients to participate in their own care.
And importantly: time for our clinicians and staff to be human beings, too.
Our clinic is built around a philosophy we call Slow Medicine. You want Quick Trim? Sorry, Oui are SLOW TRIM! Slow and sustainable for your WHOLE LIFE JOURNEY!
Slow Medicine does not mean delayed medicine or careless medicine. It means thoughtful medicine. We do not believe every question is an emergency, every symptom requires an immediate intervention, or every medical decision should be made through a text message.
Technology has made it possible for all of us to be available almost constantly.
It has not necessarily made any of us healthier.
So we're doing something different.
Defy the rush. Embrace the hush.
And the hush belongs to everyone—including you!
Your appointment is protected time for you and your clinician to make decisions together.
Questions involving changes to your treatment plan generally require an appointment, including:
- Starting or stopping medications
- Changing medication doses
- Changing the frequency of a medication
- Evaluating new or changing symptoms
- Making significant treatment decisions
- Determining when you need to be seen again
- Reviewing testing when additional clinical decision-making is necessary
At every visit, you and your clinician will decide when it is medically appropriate for you to follow up.
That follow-up interval is part of your treatment plan.
The Oui Doctor Hotline is not intended to replace this process.
If your question requires your clinician to reconsider your medical situation and make a new medical decision, we may ask you to schedule an appointment.
OUR PROMISE TO YOU
None of these policies are designed to create distance between you and your healthcare team.
They're designed to protect the conditions that allow us to practice the kind of medicine we believe in.
We promise to give you our attention when we're with you.
We promise to listen.
We promise to explain our thinking.
We promise not to rush important decisions simply because technology makes an immediate response possible.
We promise to make a clear plan with you and send that plan home with you.
We promise to tell you when we need to see you again and, when medically appropriate, provide medication through that agreed-upon interval.
We promise to communicate with one another so that you have a team, not just a single person.
We promise to protect our clinicians and staff so they can continue showing up for you with curiosity, compassion, energy, and joy.
And we ask something of you, too.
Read your Fridge Plan.
Participate in the plan we made together.
Schedule the follow-up we agreed upon.
Ask questions when you need clarification.
Make an appointment when you need medical decision-making.
Respect our team's time away from work.
And understand that sometimes the healthiest answer really is:
This doesn't have to happen right this second.
We have all been taught that faster is better.
More access is better.
Immediate is better.
We don't think that's working.
We think great medicine requires enough time to listen, enough time to think, enough time for your body to change, enough time for you to participate in your own care—
and enough time for all of us to have lives outside this building.
There is enough time.
SLOW MEDICINE.
SHARED RESPONSIBILITY.
CLEAR BOUNDARIES.
EXCELLENT CARE.
DEFY THE RUSH. EMBRACE THE HUSH.
LOVE YOU.
