Track 10: What Oui Do for Kids

Let’s talk about the kids.

I’m a board-certified family medicine doctor, which means I’m trained to care for people from birth to death. I’m also an Ari-certified mama, raising a 6 year old while still trying to bake another one before my ovaries go into retirement. LOL hashtag stay away perimenopause, i’m not done!

So yes, even though The Oui Doctor specializes in women’s health, Oui absolutely take care of children — and men too. But today, we’re talking about your babies.

Here’s my deal. I don’t just make recommendations for other people’s kids. I do them for my own.

I enrolled my infant son in the COVID vaccine trial. I give him Enlyte. I give him a probiotic. I practice what I preach. And I only want the best for your family too.

So here are the things I believe every child deserves — and you can write this down, take it to your pediatrician, and have the conversation. And if they won’t do it? Just sneak over to me. I’ll do it. Then I’ll send them a report they can keep in your child’s chart forever. You’re welcome.

🔬 1. GeneSight Testing

Yes, even for kids. Why? Because it tells us which medications will work best with your child’s DNA. For anxiety. For depression. For ADHD. For insomnia. For chronic pain. Even if your 8-year-old is doing fine now — imagine already knowing what the best treatments are, in case they ever need them.

GeneSight also checks for the MTHFR mutation, which affects how your child processes folate and can directly impact their mood, behavior, energy, and focus.

It’s a one-time cheek swab. It’s based on DNA — and unless we get invaded by aliens and your child’s genome gets scrambled, their DNA’s not changing. This test can change their life before symptoms even start.

Cost? GeneSight is often completely covered by insurance. But if it’s not, the most you’ll ever pay is $330 total — and they’ll divide it into 12 monthly payments, which comes out to less than $28 a month. You can go to genesight.com/cost to check your coverage yourself. And here’s the best part: any provider can order it. (But I’m happy to be your provider if yours won’t or hasn’t heard of it or doesn’t believe in it yet blahblahblah, you know the type)

🧬 2. MTHFR Testing + Enlyte Support

If your child has the MTHFR mutation — and about 40% of us do — supplementing with L-methylfolate (like Enlyte) can make a huge difference. I’ve seen it myself.

For kids with MTHFR, Enlyte can be a total game changer. We’re talking:
• Better behavior
• Fewer meltdowns
• Improved attention
• Brighter moods
• More confidence

In fact, our very own Lacey said this about her 10-year-old son:

“Since starting Enlyte, his behavior and focus have improved so much. He’s happier, and so am I. I wish we’d known about this years ago.”

It’s one pill. One pathway. And it works.

🍃 3. Supplement Support

Your kid’s doctor doesn’t believe in magnesium and Adderall? Girl, you don’t have to choose.

I do prescribe ADHD meds — but I also support the whole child: with vitamins, minerals, protein, sleep, and stress support. The goal is never just “medicate and move on.” It’s to build a brain and body that work together — and sometimes that means magnesium glycinate and a stimulant. We are allowed to do both. In just two visits,  your assessment and follow-up, I can give you a link to medical grade supplement support for your kids and then you can continue to just order on your own as needed.

🌱 4. Cannabis for Kids

Yes, medical marijuana for children — when appropriate and legal. In Louisiana, I can legally prescribe cannabis for children with conditions like:
• Seizure disorders
• Autism
• Anxiety
• ADD / ADHD

Every case is individualized, and the approach is gentle — usually low-dose THC with high-CBD formulations.

One family I worked with was at a breaking point. Their teenager was aggressive and unsafe, and they were preparing to place them in a group home. With careful cannabis treatment, we were able to help improve their child’s behavior enough that they could remain at home — and stay together. That was the family’s goal, and we..ed made it possible.

💉 5. GLP-1s for Adolescents

Obesity in kids is not a moral failure. And it’s not just a health issue. It’s a self-esteem issue, a bullying grenade, a war on self-worth.  It’s also a  metabolic and hormonal condition. And now, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends GLP-1s like tirzepatide and semaglutide for kids ages 12 and up — even before considering surgery.

I have a 15-year-old patient who used to hide in the back of the classroom. After starting GLP-1s and a personalized plan, she’s in the front row at choir concerts. She is a NEW. KID.  This medicine changes lives. And not just for the scale — for confidence, mental health, and a sense of control. So if your pediatrician and/or insurance company won’t do it, Oui will. Just get it on here wit yo cute selves.

💛 6. A Doctor Who’s a Mom, Too

Everything I recommend for your child — I’ve done for mine. This isn’t theory. This isn’t guessing. This is lived experience, research-backed, and heart-centered.

I believe in vaccines — I gave them to my own kid.
I believe in integrative care — I use it in my own home.
And I believe you deserve a doctor who treats your child with the same care, nuance, and magic that I give to my own.

🎯 Lucky #7: Same-Day Sick Visits

Oui get it — kids get sick fast. That’s why we offer same-day or next-day sick visits via telehealth for both established and new patients.

Earaches, fevers, weird rashes, coughs — if something’s off, text us. We’ve got you. And Oui got the school excuse too. Stay on the couch with your little and let us take care of you both.
